Mandaic

U+0840 – U+085F   (2112–2143)

The Mandaic range was introduced with version 6.0.0 of the Unicode Standard, and is located in Plane 0, the Basic Multilingual Plane.

The Mandaic script (also known as Abaga or Abagada) is caseless and is written right to left. It was developed around the 7th century CE by the Mandaeans (a Christian sect) for writing their variety of Aramaic, and it is still used for their religious documents.

The characters that appear in the “Character” columns of the following table depend on the browser that you are using, the fonts installed on your computer, and the browser options you have chosen that determine the fonts used to display particular character sets, encodings or languages.

There are no Unicode fonts designed specifically for Mandaic.

To see exactly which characters are included in a particular font, you can use a utility such as Andrew West’s BabelMap, or WunderMoosen’s FontChecker.

If you are not familiar with the characters, you can check the characters displayed here with the graphical display at http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0840.pdf.
