Help – Index of CAS Systematic Names

This index includes all of the names in the CAS field of the data sheets in the Compendium of Pesticide Common Names.

It also contains CAS names for the simple salt and ester derivatives that are listed in the Notes field on the data sheets.

Use the navigation buttons just below the title to display a list of names that begin with a particular letter. For example, click the “G” button to see the names that begin with that letter.

Just beneath each systematic name is a link to the corresponding common name; click a common name to display its data sheet.

These systematic names are in the same inverted format as is used in the Chemical Substance Index of Chemical Abstracts, and are composed of up to three parts, the index parent, the substituent, and the modification.

The first part of the name is the index parent, which is always present and forms the primary sort key. Names are sorted firstly by the roman alphabetic characters, ignoring locants, spaces, italic items and punctuation. If this sorting is not sufficient, names are then sorted on locants that precede the first roman alphabetic characters. If necessary, names are then sorted by all other locants.

If the index parent has substituents, then the index parent is represented by a long dash (—), followed by a comma of inversion, a space, and then the substituents. The substitients form a secondary sort key, and are ordered using the same rules as for the index parent.
